Telecommute and/or work with staff that telecommutes. Though we have
a central office, we have a very flexible work schedule and the discipline
and ability to work independently at home or other locations, under the
right conditions, is considered a plus for these positions. The majority
of our staff telecommutes up to two days of the week. Please note
that it is not, however, a requirement to telecommute yourself - just that
you be able to work with telecommuters. Doing it yourself is optional.
-
Reimbursement for expenses for home office use is available.
-
Use the Internet to transmit information to clients, consultants and review
agencies in electronic format as well as liberally use e-mail as communication.
We are currently only looking for individuals who have Northern Virginia
and VDOT land development design and/or drafting experience (Fairfax, Loudoun,
Prince William, with emphasis on Fairfax) - no recent (2000 to 2003)
college graduates at this time. A college degree is not required,
but obviously is a plus, for civil engineering positions. Be prepared
to bring in examples of your design and/or drafting work or projects if
you are interviewed, as well as personal references.
HOW
TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION
The company philosophy of promoting telecommuting and flexible work
hours with reduced emphasis on corporate titles or similar structure is
something which the owner, Greg Budnik (GJB), has always believed, since
graduating from Penn State in 1983, would cultivate a higher quality and
more enjoyable, thus more productive, working environment in contrast to
the larger, more structured corporate office. If what you seek is
a higher challenge to your skills, with more responsibility, independence
and room to grow as a professional, these are positions you should look
into. Compensation is flexible with profit sharing, 401(k), health
benefits, vacation and medical leave, education and other perks available
for negotiation as part of an overall package.
Email a detailed resume (over one page is fine) with a well written
cover letter to Greg Budnik, P.E. at: greg.budnik@gjbinc.com
This web page will be updated as necessary to include additional information
as necessary, including whatever obvious stuff we forgot to put up here
as candidates inquire, so feel free to check back from time to time for
any modifications or additions or email us to get further information prior
to sending in your resume.

YOU WOULD BE WORKING WITH (CURRENT STAFF)
A little about the people you'd be
working with:
-
Four full-time engineers (Four senior
engineers, two of which are licensed P.E.'s)
-
One full-time administrative office

One full-time engineering technician/researcher

Our technical staff has "graduated from" and been employed by a number
of the well known and leading firms in the site civil engineering discipline
of Northern Virginia (Dewberry & Davis, Urban Engineers, Greenhorne
& O'Mara, christopher consultants, Pacuilli Simmons, Rinker Detwiler,
etc.) as well as top engineering schools such as Penn State, University
of Georgia and Virginia Tech. We all get along quite well together
and look forward to another professional to share our work experience with.
We do not perform surveying in-house
nor do we intend to in the future. Our surveying work has been subcontracted
out mainly to one local established firm for the past 14 years with two
other firms for overflow work.
About
GJB Engineering Inc.
Want to know more about our company
that's not on this web page? Here's a brief information
sheet on our firm. Our office
is conveniently located in Newington, Virginia a mile inside the Fairfax
County Parkway, 25 minutes from the Fairfax County Government Center.
We believe that the "infill" market for small and specialized (non-large/major
builder) clientele will continue to remain extremely strong and we are
committed to being one of the top specialized custom site civil & land
development engineering firms in the County for infill work. To successfully
perform infill work and maintain financial profitability on this type of
work, it is essential, in our opinion, to having a very experienced staff.
Thus we seek candidates who wants a challenge and a more flexible and independent
working environment.
Our work load has not diminished once in our 14 years thus far, even
during the early 90's slowdown, due to our niche market which we have with
small clients in the Northern Virginia area, combined with our consulting
for homeowner and community associations. It is worth noting that
we have never laid off an individual off for lack of work or for lack of
being able to offer a better position
or promotion
within the firm thus far. People who come to
work at GJB are brought on with an eye for the long term, not for short
term workload remediation.
Our independent
and flexible work environment is very unique in the Washington Metro area
engineering industry.
